As a guide, the BCDC1240D is used for battery bank sizes over 200AH. 

For smaller batteries of 75-200AH REDARC recommends the BCDC1225D. 
 

The REDARC BCDC1240D is a high-performance 12V 40A DC to DC battery charger designed for engine bay installations. Engineered to endure extreme conditions, it offers superior protection against heat, moisture, and dust.

Equipped with a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) solar regulator, the BCDC1240D enables simultaneous charging from both solar panels and the vehicle's alternator. Its 'Green Power Priority' feature ensures that solar energy is used first, reducing the load on the alternator.

Broad Compatibility
This charger supports both 12V and 24V vehicle systems and is compatible with both standard and smart/variable alternators. It includes REDARC’s patented charging profiles and introduces a new lithium profile, making it ideal for REDARC Lithium batteries as well as AGM, GEL, standard lead-acid, and calcium batteries.

Best Uses
The BCDC1240D is recommended for use with lead-acid battery banks larger than 200Ah and lithium batteries above 100Ah. Be sure to consult your battery manufacturer's guidelines to ensure the charger's 'Continuous Current Rating' aligns with the recommended maximum charging current. For smaller batteries, the BCDC1225D is a suitable option.
